The Artist
The HAGI Choir
We welcome the HAGI Choir, led by Music Director Mitsuharu Okazaki and comprised of the finest voices from tsunami-stricken Sendai, the capital city of Miyagi Prefecture in northeast Japan.
Mr. Okazaki, dedicated to the development of a world-class choral group from Sendai, had already hand-picked and was tirelessly rehearsing many of Sendai's finest voices in preparation for a May 20th performance at Carnegie Hall when the earthquake and tsunami struck. The HAGI Choir will soon resume rehearsals, even as members spend nearly all of their time aiding in recovery efforts.
Sendai was established around the year 1600 by Date Masamune, a legendary warrior who is to this day the hero of the city. "Hagi" is Japanese for bush clover, the official flower of the Miyagi Prefecture. Click here for more information on Sendai. The HAGI Choir
